Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Course Description

Course Length: 40 Hours of Instructor-led, classroom training.

The Cisco CCNA network associate certification confirms your ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size networks (whether routed or switched), including implementing and verifying connections with remote sites in a WAN. This new study format includes basic handling of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts, as well as terminology, and daily job skills. Also, the curriculum includes, without being limited to, the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2),VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs).

Prerequisites

To be successful in the CCNA Certification Training program, students should possess:

  • One year of computer and networking experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of binary, and converting between it and decimal and hexadecimal.
  • The knowledge and skill to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security.
  • At least a basic understanding of the many types of network cables, such as twisted pair, coax (thick and thin), fiber optic, etc., the ability to properly terminate them for the purpose of running custom cables for a LAN.
  • At least a decent grasp on wireless networking, and encryption, especially the ability to install it/them.
  • An introductory understanding of routing, wide area networking, and switching.
  • An introductory understanding of networking hardware, including hubs, routers, servers, mass data storage devices, and switches.
  • An introductory understanding of TCP/IP and sub-netting.
  • The Cisco CCENT certification.
  • Previous experience with Cisco hardware is good, along with familiarity with design and security principles and practice.

CESD, Inc., is an intense training environment. You must have an attitude aimed for success. The above prerequisites are guidelines, but many students with less experience have other background or traits that have enabled their success in accelerated training through CESD, Inc.

Certification Exam: 640-801, or 640-802 (both CCNA, but the 801 is invalid on 11/6/2007)

Exam Description:

The 640-802 Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) test is the complete exam associated with Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. You can prepare for this exam by taking the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1) v1.0 and the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 (ICND2) v1.0 courses. It tests a candidate's ability to install, operate, and troubleshoot a LAN. The topics include connecting to a WAN, such as the Web; establishing network security; types of networks; networking media; [basics of] routing and switching; the OSI and TCP/IP models; IP addresses; WANs, and associated technology; operating IOS devices; connecting switched networks using VLANs; calculatin IP routes; controlling IP traffic with access lists; setting up point-to-point connections; as well as establishing Frame Relay connections.

Exam Topics:

The following topics are just guidelines for the content most likely included on the Cisco Certified Network Associate test. However, other related topics may also appear on any specific delivery of the exam.   • Implement static and dynamic addressing services for hosts in a LAN environment
  • Calculate and apply an addressing scheme including VLSM IP addressing design to a network
  • Determine the appropriate classless addressing scheme using VLSM and summarization to satisfy addressing requirements in a LAN/WAN environment
  • Describe the technological requirements for running IPv6 in conjunction with IPv4 (including: protocols, dual stack, tunneling, etc).
  • Describe IPv6 addresses
  • Identify and correct common problems associated with IP addressing and host configurations
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing on Cisco devices
  • Describe basic routing concepts (including: packet forwarding, router lookup process)

Recertification:

CCNA certifications are good for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam.
